FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Active dissident Yan Peng and democracy theorist Mu Chuanheng were convicted for inciting to overthrow state power. They were also accused of insulting leaders of the Central government. Yan was sentenced to one and a half years and is deprived of political rights for two years. Mu was sentenced to three years and is deprived of political rights for five years. Human Rights in China believes that these sentences are an attempt to silence the opposition before the 16th Conference of National People’s Congress.
