As a participant in arranging memorial activities for the late Zhao Zhiyang in New York, Human Rights in China (HRIC) would like to provide the following information relating to the memorial service planned for Saturday, January 22.
Many members of New York City’s overseas dissident community are expected to attend the memorial service, which will be held in the lobby of the Sheraton Hotel in Flushing from 1 to 5 p.m. on January 22. Also expected to attend are scholars and community leaders such as New York State Senator Jimmy Meng and New York City Councilor John Liu.
The main organizers of the memorial include Chen Yizi, Yan Jiaqi, Chen Xianzhong, Xiong Yuanjian, Winston Yang, Wang Juntao and Liu Qing. Zhao Ziyang’s former personal secretary, Bao Tong, now under close police supervision in Beijing, has also sent a wreath to be displayed at the memorial service in his name.
